Awesome Games Done Quick 2014 has begun. The annual marathon livestream started early January 5, this year collecting donations for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. The geeks have gathered, some of the most prominent members of the Speed Demos Archive community speed-running game after game after game all the way until January 11. That's over 140 games. We are not worthy.
Seriously, this is a group of gamers who dedicate a majority of their free time to mastering specific games and livestreaming it -- some have even made a career out of it. While they aren't all record holders in their respective games, they are all close. If you enjoy watching games be speed-run, it doesn't get better than this.
Donation totals a day in already equal over $100,000, though the event's goal is $500,000. Expect them to meet that goal and more, deservedly so. Well, unless the fire alarm that just went off is a serious issue. All the speed-runners had to leave the building and the camera is just sitting on an empty couch... a Super Famicom controller sitting on the floor. Oh, they're coming back now! Let's get started all over again.
Seriously, everyone, this is a livestream worth checking out. These are the nerdiest of nerds doing something not just significant, but impactful. Chip in if you can, either through a donation or by purchasing one of the awesome t-shirts they've got for the event. Or just watch. It's worth watching.
