Microsoft has announced January's run of free games included with "Games With Gold" and it's not so bad. January's games will feature Sleeping Dogs followed by Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light. The two games are in line with Microsoft's pricing requirements, with Sleeping Dogs costing $20 and Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light costing $15. "Is any DLC included?" No. Don't even ask.
Sleeping Dogs is an open world title and is a great addition to the service for two different reasons. One, not enough people played it or own it. That means most people who will pick it up for free will be experiencing it for the first time. Second, that games is worth so much more than the price tag it currently has on it. I think with Sleeping Dogs Microsoft finally found a game that makes the service worthwhile just for the free games and not just as a bonus in addition to being able to watch Netflix and play Halo online. Guardian of Light is a top-down co-op game that's fun, though not standout. A good 1-2 combo, Sleeping Dogs and Guardian of Light.
Keep in mind that Games With Gold is limited to the Xbox 360. Microsoft has announced plans for the service to come to the Xbox One... in 2014. That could mean the service will start in any month of 2014, but I'd put my money on the later months. We can at least certainly cross out January as service's launch on Xbox One. I wouldn't count on February either.
