What even is deep down? Every time I start to think I know what deep down is I think about it some more and realize I'm still no closer to the answer than ever before. We know the PlayStation 4 exclusive action is free-to-play. We know it's multiplayer. We know it features a modern day setting using relics and a very strange machine to create dungeons players can explore. That's about it. And today's new trailer and screenshots don't help much.
Is it Dark Souls, is it Dragon's Dogma, is it styled more like an MMO? I don't get it. Plus, if we're not paying for this game up front where does the money then come from, because adding microtransactions to any of those games I just compared it to radically changes the experience. I suppose what that means is we can't really define what deep down is; we'll have to wait and see.
In the mean time, however, we can at least show a bit of respect for the game's aesthetic and visuals -- it looks great. In today's "Prologue 2014" trailer a new treasure chest mimic enemy is shown and it looks epic. Huge teeth, the surprise factor, and creepy, gangly arms and legs. Despite how I'm unsure about the gameplay of deep down, it's impossible to argue how great the game looks.
deep down is planned for release in 2014 exclusively on the PlayStation 4 and is being developed by Capcom Online Games.
