One of many small surprises made by Nintendo during today's December Nintendo Direct livestream was the announcement and subsequent launch of a game titled NES Remix. That's right, it's available now on the Wii U eShop for $14.99. What is NES Remix? Well, it appears to be a collection mini-games based on classic Nintendo games, only with the gameplay "remixed."
As far as the remixed levels go, of which there are 16 included with the game, some gameplay examples include Donkey Kong played as Link instead of Mario/Jumpman, or Super Mario Bros. where you run left to right on a classic stage as opposed to vice versa. Other games shown include Excitebike and The Legend of Zelda, though exactly how each level has been "remixed" may not be clear until you play the game itself.
NES Remix is available right now, exclusively on the Nintendo Wii U. While the game itself may not be a system seller, it's certainly another piece of content that makes the console seem more attractive than before. Content which Nintendo is rather starving of on the Wii U currently. And hey, let's be fair, NES Remix actually looks legitimately fun. Whether it's worth $15 up front is another matter entirely, however.
