As I expected, Playstation 4, Xbox One and 3DS were top 3 hardware for the month. Still, fantastic job for Playstation 4, most of all for being the only console to pass 1 million for the month. This is the first time in FOREVER in which something not 3DS is the best selling gaming device.

The top ten games for the month are extremely boring though(no offense to those who enjoy any of those games)

Slash, guess you was right. Wii U only sold a little over 200,000. My prediction was 250,000 and I thought that was way too low. It didn't even meet that. D=
This saddens me, but it was expected.

The launch hardware is selling out better than expected but the real test is how they'll keep this momentum up throughout the next year. Here's hoping they do.

For those unfamiliar with what we call the "NPD Spin" the NPD doesn't release numbers or statements without express permissions from hardware developers. That's why instead of exact numbers for Xbox One and PS4 we get oddball, nonsense statements like "This console sold fastest!" and "This console sold the most!" and why the Nintendo Wii U isn't mentioned at all.

Basically all I want to say is don't read into these statements too far. In the US both next-gen consoles are selling out at retail (for the most part) and so it's really difficult to draw conclusions until that stops happening. It's easy to be top selling when your console is available for almost a week more than the other guy, and it's easier to be fastest selling when most sales come on day one and then there're less post-day one days to take into account for the average.

TL;DR - Just both manufacturers spinning that both PS4 and Xbox One are selling out and can't meet demand.

PS4 seems like it can't keep up with demand. It's sold out everywhere. People that have 1 could probably make a huge profit and get another on in the new year

TBH I've been seeing way too many of these silly sales comparison articles. Almost every gaming journalist websites seems to be constantly talking about it. Granted, I'm aware that in the current state of games available for each console, there isn't a whole lot to comment on in terms of games, but honestly I tire of constantly reading of how "so and so outsold so and so, but so and so did it faster, but so and so sold more here" and all that.

We've been working hard at Neo to try and avoid the sensationalized stuff coming from Microsoft and Sony, but at the same time hard numbers are good for discussion. Stuff like the NPD info here is more for individual game sales vs. console sales numbers, though Microsofts 900,000 in 9 days number is interesting.

When we do post numbers, we certain to go out of our way to paint them in an honest way and point out the spin as much as possible.

PS4 outsold XBOne obviously, you can find Xbone stocks in Australia straight away, MS has SKUs of XBOne in EB, JB and other shops, but no one buy it. The reality is you can't find PS4. and PS4 is selling like hotcakes on EBay.

Why doesn't XBone sold out on the retail shelf like PS4? You can't find PS4 on shelf, I'm sure gamers always go for PS4. MS is lying that they're selling faster than PS4. Nonsense.

Xbox One was released in 13 different countries whilst PS4 came out in two initially. Two days before the two-week period mentioned here the console released in Europe and a few other countries. And just imagine how much the PS4 would be ahead if it released in Japan. Guess we'll see the numbers early next year. Xbox One does hold a better record in North America as far as fastest selling console goes.

That's interesting, actually. Xbox Ones here in the US are just as rare as the PS4s. We'll get five or six every week or so, and sell them within an hour or two. Though I will say the PS4 is usually asked about more than the Xbox.

Microsoft meanwhile since confirmed it sold some 909,132 Xbox One consoles within the final nine days of November, which would in fact make it faster selling by units per day.
