Update: Day 2 of Dota 2's Frostivus event has begun with Frostivus being canceled! A large message has been plastered over yesterday's saying that, "By Decree of the Only King That Matters: Frostivus is Canceled." Coincidentally the small Skeleton King cukoo on a spring from yesterday is missing behind his door, in addition to the hero no longer being selectable in-game.
Other interesting additions on the board include an advert stating: "Wanted: Experienced Commander" and another for a lost greevil. A third features an odd symbol along with what appears to be the rantings of a madman. So, Greevils, Legion Commander hero additon, plus Skeleton King visual update? All that and more? Guess we'll see tomorrow.
In the spirit of the season, and still stinging from the near emergency that was Diretide, Valve has announced that Frostivus is returning to Dota 2. Despite last year's winter holiday going Greevil, cheer is coming back to Dota 2. While the features aren't exactly rich, it's best to stay humble and appreciative for the things we will be receiving. Valve's planning on introducing both gifting as well as holiday crafting for all the boys and girls.
- What type of crafting, you might say? Why, a type of crafting that requires players to collect "bright winter berries and sprigs of fir" and then weave them together to form "mementos for family and friends."
- What type of gifting, you might say? Why, a type of gifting that begins by finding a friend's "Frostivus Wish-List" and ends with purchasing something special that they'll be delightfully surprised by.
Details on both crafting and gifting are rather scant, to say the least, which leads me to believe that we can expect further information from Valve in the days ahead. Exactly what types of holiday crafts players can put together, or how exactly gifting will work (mystery gifts?) would be good to know. Considering Valve almost missed Diretide this year, hopefully they've put together something special.
Expect more information on Frostivus, Dota 2's special holiday meta-event, in the days and weeks to come. We'll let you know when the update goes live. Don't be surprised if we see a few Greevils, too.
