Im holding out for a later phase of the Starbound Beta, as Im one of those people who likes to keep my characters. Impressed by what I've seen so far, but I'm really hoping that some of the features of http://playasteria.com have made it into this game. If it's too much like Terraria, I'll have a hard time getting into it.

psychotoof - Where did they say you'd lose your characters? Not that I'm denying that's possible, but I haven't kept up on the news.

I'm encoding a video of me playing for the first hour and a half XD Took me a while to really figure anything out >_>

Hunterb No. I'd call it an evolution.

It was in their notes in the different phases of the Beta. They didn't say you'd lose your character, but it's suggested that if you don't like to lose your save, to not play. Im one of those guys who hates losing the work done on a game. It's especially frustrating on a game where there isn't an end or an objective, like Terraria.

Im liking the look of Starbound so far and it's something I desperately want to play, but Im going to wait till a later phase when I at least know my game time won't be thrown away. Also holding out to see if there is any kind of Storyline and some sort of endgame. These things exist in Asteria which I've been playing. It has a great mining/building system, it has a story, but more importantly it has an end!

So far it appears to be an extension of Terraria if it can't be called a clone. So far Im already put off by the 'mining' only because I feel it was too slow in Terraria. Im not expecting it to be much more than that at this point because it's in Beta.

Well, the Character/World Wipe update has gone through, the game's combat/universe system has been rebalanced (No Armor Penetration stat anymore, world levels go up to 10 instead of 100, monster levels aren't displayed anymore for some reason).

Supposedly, there won't be any more wipes after this however. They only needed to be wiped because they were making big changes to the game.

Was that the first beta wipe?

I don't think it's the last one, since they added EXPECT WIPES in big red text in the launcher the other day. :\

They still have loads of changes to make too. Suggestions that it's going back to the original multiple-difficulties-per-sector design, loads of unfinished crafting, looooads of unfinished lore and 'inspect' dialogue.. I get the feeling that what we have right now is only the tip of the ice berg - at least of what they're hoping to achieve.
