Everybody loves LEGOs, which is why they keep making more even though technically everyone should be able to make everything with just a basic kit, right? And it stretches to games too, which is why we have the newly announced LEGO The Hobbit, the game based on the movie based on the book. That's licensing for you. Expect that familiar mix of third-person action, platforming and puzzle solving, only now in Middle Earth.
TT Games' Managing Director issued the following statement on LEGO The Hobbit:
"We are thrilled to depict the characters and environments of Peter Jackson’s Middle-earth in LEGO form with the LEGO The Hobbit videogame. Our family-friendly take on these thrilling adventures will have kids and parents playing and laughing together as they build and explore in LEGO Middle-earth."
While they're not necessarily anything to be too excited about, the LEGO titles continue to be... solid titles for kids and parents to enjoy together. That said, they're not exactly pushing any ground, but that's mostly because no one has any expectations for them. Basically, Warner Bros. finds a new property they want to make a LEGO game of, points to their stack of money, and boom -- LEGO The Hobbit!
LEGO The Hobbit is planned for release on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Wii U, PC, 3DS and Vita. The game is based on the first two Hobbit movies, but not the third. Expect LEGO The Hobbit to be released in spring of 2014.
