While Destiny may be coming to Microsoft's consoles as well, Sony's always had a special marketing relationship with Bungie. Case in point Bungie showing up at tonight's PlayStation 4 All-Access launch event where they showcased the latest in-engine trailer for Destiny. Impressive stuff, but they also had a special surprise for PlayStation fans. Destiny's beta in 2014 will be coming to both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 before other platforms.
Sure, it's not a timed exclusive for the full retail launch or anything, but it's a nice touch for what could be one of next-gen's biggest new franchises. Who knows, an early beta (that requires a preorder mind you) could be enough to slant purchases in Sony's favor and guarantee their dominance on the game going forward. Every little b it helps. From my perspective, I just appreciate Sony getting more Destiny videos out to us ever couple of months.
Today's teaser trailer jumps around a lot. Most of the gameplay we see focuses on the Moon mission, which I believe turns out to be a prison of sorts. From there we jump to Mars, and then who knows what other planets. It's a big solar system, you know? Take it all in, because it's what we'll be fighting to save when Destiny launches.
Destiny is currently planned for release on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 with a planned release date in mid-2014. Before that expect the beta in early 2014, which as noted above will come first to PlayStation platforms. Of course, to gain beta access, you have to preorder the game from one of the participating retailers. Make sure you get your code!
