The moment Sony's "This Is For The Players" PlayStation 4 launch trailer opens with Ryu driving a taxi-cab, gamers should know they have to keep their eyes open. The next minute of the commercial is spent packing in visual references, some obvious and some subvert, to games and characters both confirmed and unconfirmed. Hopefully there are some epic teasers hidden in here for folk to discover.
One teaser in particular takes the cake, as far as what's discovered so far. It involves a traffic sign featuring the figure of one Crash Bandicoot. It works out like this: there's a garbage can, Crash Bandicoot's sign is just above the trash can, above Crash is a sign with an arrow and above the arrow is a classic Sony PlayStation logo sign. The imagery points towards Sony taking Crash out of the trash and bringing him home. New crash? HD updated Crash? Hmm.
The only other teaser that was readily apparent to me on first and second watch was Ryu driving the taxi, but by now most gaming nerds have heard that news. Let me recap. Capcom's Street Fighter icon Yoshinori Ono will be at tonight's big PlayStation 4 All Access event where it's almost certain he'll reveal Ultimate Street Fighter 4 for the PS4. That's why Ryu gets such a big spot in the trailer.
If you see any other big references, point them out! Well, beyond the Killzone, Knack, Watch Dogs, Infamous and Drive Club ones. Gah, the PlayStation 4 launches tomorrow, everyone!
