Odds are Ubisoft's Child of Light isn't on very many gamers' radars, which is quite the same. Though to be fair, we haven't heard much about the title beyond its indie-at-Ubisoft aspirations. Today that probably changes, with the released of a developer walkthrough introducing the game, its poetic premise, and the JRPG turn-based combat at its heart. Dear me, fellows, it has Grandia combat. IT HAS GRANDIA COMBAT.
Running on the engine behind Rayman Legends, Child of Light takes on a painterly style that's simply brilliant. Perhaps the only other comparable experiences that come to mind are Jonathan Blow's Braid and the as-yet-unreleased adventure game from Double Fine, Broken Age. The cloudy, colorful style lends itself so well to the fairy-tale theme, again something that appears to be used in the games I mentioned earlier.
Child of Light is currently planned for release on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Wii U in 2014.Check out the developer walkthrough below and see just what Ubisoft's dreamed up.
