True, but I've not heard of it happening to Dropbox yet. Besides, If you were part of a University when Dropbox did their space race, you could have got a nice chunk of free storage.

Dropbox is no different, any service hosted in the US has to be compliant with the PATRIOT Act.

Didn't Microsoft allow authorities access to user's SkyDrive contents without their permission? I'll stick with Dropbox. They are going to have to change the name of "SkyDrive" too, they lost a case in the UK against BSkyB.

SkyDrive is just an optional gimmick, when the Coronal Mass Ejection occurs it'll be gone in the split of a second, precious online data are prone to high-energy particles from the Sun.
