Microsoft's Larry Hryb, more commonly known as Major Nelson, has decided to share with us the best next-gen upgrade that none of us knew we cared about. Do you remember spending all of three or four minutes redeeming digital codes on the Xbox 360? You know, for Xbox Live subscriptions, Microsoft Points or digital games? Now with QR codes redemption becomes practically instant, and all it takes is a camera that's always watching your living space.
Seriously though, there's nothing more annoying than having to use a console controller to input a 25-digit code one input at a time on damned digital keyboard. Do I press a trigger to go to the numbers? Is it X or B to backspace? Ah, damn, the code didn't register and I have to write the whole thing over again. "Xbox, I hate you." No more of that, I'm afraid! Now you just whisper, "Xbox, Enter a Code," into its audio sensors and show it the QR code. Instant gratification.
Yes, this is an entire news post dedicated to how a $500 console can read QR codes. Shut up. It seemed like a big deal when I started writing it.
Thanks to LOD-squa for the tip.
