Put this one down as a huge maybe, but a reliable rumor monger on NeoGAF put this out there and we're going to bite. According to user "famousmortimer" the spiritual successor to Demon's Souls was planned to be announced at Sony's big pre-launch event for the PlayStation 4 on Spike. According to mortimer this news is fairly old and could likely have been changed since. That said, this is too juicy of a rumor to pass up on.
Demon's Souls was originally developed by both From Software and Sony's Japan Studio. From Software would later go on to create Dark Souls as well as the upcoming Dark Souls II, but the Demon's Souls franchise would remain under Sony's control. While nothing's official, Sony's believed to be developing a sequel for the PlayStation 4.
Can you imagine how spoiled we'd be to have Dark Souls II come out next year only to be followed by a true, developed for next-gen, Demon's Souls II? Hnng, the punishment, it is too strong. One has to wonder whether Sony will take the the franchise in a different direction than From Software has with Dark Souls, or if we'll get too similar franchises competing against each other for years to come.
Sony's PlayStation 4 debuts on November 15, with a special event broadcast by Spike starting November 14 at 11:00 PM EDT. Will Demon's Souls II make an appearance? At least one reliable source thinks so. Something has to be announced, so why not?
