NIS America has picked up the rights to another RPG that's sure to please a very excitable, yet generally ignored gamer niche. Mugen Souls Z, sequel to none other than Mugen Souls, is planned for release on both North America and Europe in 2014 exclusively on the PlayStation 3. From Compile Heart, creators of Hyperdimention Neptunia and Cross Edge, this is one RPG you probably already know whether you want or not.
If you're unfamiliar with the, erm, plot of Mugen Souls then you're really missing out. It's about a the "Undisputed God of the Universe" (notice the quotation marks) Chou-Chou on a quest to conquer the seven worlds of which the universe is made up of. It appears Mugen Souls Z takes up right after the end of its prequel, as players take up the role of new character Sylma, who is striving to save her world from an unnamed threat.
Sure, it seems like an interesting premise, but let's be forthwith here. If it's an RPG from Compile Hearts it's likely extremely saturated in Japanese anime culture, including fan-service and terrible humor. That said, NIS America does an outstanding job of preserving the Japanese essence of the game, though there's admittedly quite a bit of culture shock. In fact, it appears that some aspects of the game will in fact be censored in the localizations, according to NIS. Don't get flustered, it's likely a character listed as an adult that looks like a child wearing way too little clothing. It happens more often than folk realize in localizing Japanese titles for the west.
Expect more information on Mugen Souls Z over the next few months. NIS America always provides plenty of trailers and screenshots for fans to pour over. Expect Mugen Souls Z to release exclusively on the PlayStation 3 (where else?) in 2014.
