Not all Kickstarter campaigns work out, but for Hinterland Studio, The Long Dark has proven to be a successful endeavor. Today, the campaign closes with $256,217 in crowdfunds -- well over the original $200,000 CAD goal. Hooray for survival sims!
The people at Hinterland are, of course, pleased with the outcome of the campaign. Founder and creative director Raphael van Lierop, who has worked on projects such as Far Cry 3 and Warhammer 40K: Space Marine, expressed their gratitude with the following:
"We're thrilled by the overwhelming support we've received from fans, backers, and press over the 30 days of our Kickstarter campaign.
"We couldn't be happier. We have nearly 7,000 incredible supporters at the heart of a growing Hinterland community. It's been an intense time, and the team deserves a rest, but we're ready to get back to working on the game. Expectations and anticipation couldn't be higher. We're focused and determined to create something that lives up to those expectations."
At the end of the Kickstarter campaign, The Long Dark had accumulated nearly 7,000 backers. None of this takes into account how much was raised through PayPal, either.
Hinterland currently estimates the game will be out next fall. Recently, the studio announced both Jennifer Hale and David Hayter, two iconic and incredible voice actors, would be lending their talents to this post-apocalyptic title.
