Airing during Monday Night Football last night, Sony released a brand new PlayStation 4 commercial titled "Perfect Day" that may just be the best of the year. The commercial features two gentlemen role-playing through live-action gameplay from three upcoming PS4 games. They do a PvP dance in The Elder Scrolls Online, pull a Burnout in Drive Club, and reach the climax of the song in a huge multiplayer Killzone: Shadow Fall battle. The PS4 hits November 15.
While at times the commercial can look pretty hokey, like the gentlemen's faces CG'd onto the bodies of stunt doubles, it works out so perfectly throughout the commercial. There's just an absurd non-realism that makes the rather brutal action very cheesy and flippant. That doofy look the one guy has after being headbutt by a battle-axe wielding warrior wearing a steal helmet... priceless.
Sony's PlayStation 4 will be launching on November 15, which is... holy crap, just a month away. Hilariously, any would-be PS4 buyers pulled in by this commercial may very well have to wait a few months, considering the console has sold out of preorders virtually everywhere. Perhaps the marketing tagline, "Greatness Awaits," will simply have to represent how awesome this commercial is, or is some sarcastic joke about how most folk will be waiting quite some time to actually play these games.
