The Stanley Parable was originally released as a Half-Life 2 mod, but is now being updated and expanded for standalone release. We can now confirm that October 17 will in fact be the date of that release, which means we all have about a week to prepare ourselves mentally for the game. If you're unwilling to dive into these chilly waters headfirst, a demo was made available today to dip your toes in.
That leaves just one question: what the heck is The Stanley Parable anyway? Erm, well, that's sort of a complicated question. It's not necessarily similar to other games out there. If I had to describe it using gaming jargon I'd say... it's experimental, non-linear... a reflection on choice in games or maybe a lack thereof? Like I said, it's complicated. There's a trailer below, one of the best trailers ever in my opinion, that should give a better look inside the mind that is The Stanley Parable.
Pick up The Stanley Parable starting October 17 via Steam (go Greenlight!). It's one of those games worth experiencing, either as it's released or whenever you can afford it. One of those rare gaming experiences that don't come around very often. Don't believe me? Check out the demo. It' should be enough to wet your palate.
