We learned yesterday that Telltale Games' The Wolf Among Us would be launching its first episode, titled Faith, this Friday for Xbox 360 and PC. Today, Telltale followed up the launch reveal with a launch trailer that should provide a solid look at what The Wolf Among Us will offer as an experience. Sure, having the Fables brand attached to the game is a good start, but what kind of game are we really looking at here?
Surprisingly, the launch trailer doesn't really provide any sort of look at what The Wolf Among Us' gameplay will actually be. This mirrors much of the marketing for The Walking Dead, where dialogue and character interaction was the focus as opposed to how players actually interacted with the world. Now the question becomes whether that will be enough to appeal to a large audience. Hell, will it be enough to appeal to fans of The Walking Dead game?
While there are certainly questions worth asking of Telltale Games, as they're certainly had their ups and downs in game development, it's impossible not to support them. They stumbled onto a brilliant format with The Walking Dead and in all honesty, Fables fits what Telltale is doing with adventure games so much better overall. Dialogue, characters, mysteries, let's see what Telltale can do.
The Wolf Among Us' first episode, titled Faith, will be released this Friday on both Xbox 360 and PC. How you purchase the game is a bit complicated, however. On Xbox 360 the each episode can be purchased for $4.99, or the full season for around $20. On PC, it doesn't appear that single episodes can be purchased. Instead, players will have to buy the full season at once for $25 (currently at a 10% discount). A PlayStation 3 version of the game will launch October 15 using a similar episodic format as the Xbox 360 version.
