Audiosurf is one of those games that everyone should and probably already does have in their Steam library. Surely it's been acquired by most of the internet through some Humble Bundle or ridiculous Steam sale, right? Audiosurf's unique tech that allows players to upload an MP3 file and play a dynamically created music track for that song is must-have. That might explain why a sequel, Audiosurf 2, may see release soon.
Yes, a Steam profile for Audiosurf 2 has just has just been upgraded to "Coming Soon" status, revealing that the sequel that no one realized they absolutely needed will be released in 2013. Not only that, but early access to the game will begin today. Here's the profile's short description:
"Ride your music - Audiosurf 2 is a customizable music game that works with any song! Choose a song, choose a mod, choose a skin - choose to earn the top score! The highlight of Audiosurf 2 (so far) is wakeboarding mode, but there's also classic modes, Audiosprint (party mode), and more to come as both official modes and Workshop mods."
I was never particularly good at the original Audiosurf -- not much of a leaderboard warrior, you might say. Still, I found a lot of enjoyment in Audiosurf by just loading something up and seeing what sort of track the game would create for me. It's a music experience as much as it is a challenging game. So, I'm curious to see how the game has expanded as an experience vs. just new modes and a visual update.
Expect more news on Audiosurf 2 shortly, I'd expect. Steam isn't typically the place to make announcements, so keep an eye out for something a little more official.
