It shouldn't come as any surprise to Super Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS fans and Nintendo followers, but Sonic the Hedgehog has now officially joined the roster. While Sonic will not be an entirely new addition, as he also starred in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, seeing him on-stage fighting both Mario and now Mega Man is any child of the 80's and 90's fan-fiction dream come true. Welcome back, Blue Blur, I hope you brought chili dogs for everyone.
There's no surprise here as Nintendo and Sega are practically peas in a pod together right now. I speak of course of Sega's three-game partnership with Nintendo to create two Sonic-specific titles and the Sonic and Mario at the Olympics game. In other words, if Nintendo shows up on Sega's door and says, "We need Sonic for a game," then Sega says, "Would you like Tails, too?"
With Sonic's addition to the Super Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS roster that makes for two additions this week! It was only a few days ago that Toon Link was added to the game. The timing of that addition kind of coincided with the release of The Legends of Zelda: The Wind Waker. It's rather a mystery why Sonic has suddenly been announced, though a Nintendo Direct even is as good as any, right?
Super Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS is planned for release in 2014. We're still hammering out the expected additions to the roster, but there's got to be a few surprises left in the barrel, right?
