Frictional Games, developers of the Penumbra series and Amnesia: The Dark Descent, have been working on something. While they've handled publishing duties for Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs from thechineseroom they've definitely been up to something sinister on their own. That project looks to be revealed quite soon, as today a teaser site was launched with a loading bar slowly filling.
Yes, it appears Frictional games is working on a game that's related to computers in some way, as the teaser site is themed after a computer in the process of rebooting. Some misaligned text in the corner reads, "SYSTEM FAILURE." A bunch of other misaligned and distorted text fills the screen, but it's too unclear for me to read. Oh, and one other thing -- alien text. Oh dear.
Yes, the progress bar is slowly filling up, which means the announcement should be coming sometime early next week -- or even sooner. I believe it's going up at the rate of about 1% an hour, but I'm not entirely sure about that. Also, yes, we can be sure this is a game announcement, considering the URL reads "NextFrictionalGame.com".
Is it Penumbra? I'm not familiar enough with the franchise to make that call. Is it Amnesia? Doubtful, as Frictional doesn't seem interested in continuing that story themselves, which is why thechineseroom developed A Machine For Pigs. All we really know is Frictional Games is developing the game on the newest iteration of their in-house game engine. If the Penumbra's were made on HPL 1 and Amnesia on HPL 2, imagine what Frictional can do with HPL 3?
