Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS has added Toon Link to the roster, coinciding with the recent release of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD on the Wii U. Yes, cell-shaded Link, now captured in all of his HD glory, will be returning to the roster after his first appearance in Super Smash Bros. Brawl on the Wii. Toon Link follows the recently added Peach to the roster.
Toon Link has brought all of his standard equipment: the Master Sword, the Hyrulian shield and the Wind Waker itself. He also has his trusty bow and one shot also shows what must be a bomb explosion, but any of the other equipment fans might expect from a Legend of Zelda game has yet to be revealed. Not that the afore mention items won't do the job!
While Wind Waker is personally my favorite 3D Zelda game, that's not necessarily true for most gamers. As such, Toon Link's addition seems to be more of an advertising move to push sales of Wind Waker HD versus priority inclusion over other Nintendo franchise characters. That's not a bad thing, of course, but one Link really is enough for Zelda faithful I'd imagine. It'd be great to see more new faces.
Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS will be released in 2014. With Toon Link's addition to the roster, the full list now adds up to 16 fighters. That includes four main Mario characters (Mario, Luigi, Peach and Bowser), two Links, and only one Pokemon character! Oh dear, that must mean we can expect at least one Pokemon challenger announcement as we lead into Pokemon X and Pokemon Y's release, right?
