Ubisoft isn't giving up on their digital platform, Uplay. In fact, the company today announced Uplay PC 4.0 will have "an array of new features in high demand among the PC community," such as Twitch integration. Not only that, but Uplay will also be integrated into next-gen consoles Xbox One and PS4.
Promise of "high demand" features aside, today's announcement focused more on the Twitch.tv and console integration thing. See, thanks to Twitch integration, Uplay PC 4.0 will allow members to broadcast in-game videos and share their gaming adventures with friends. Here are another several highlights:
An improved download manager allows for the progressive download of games and auto-patching, meaning that gamers can spend more time playing. And a new social wall keeps members up-to-date on their friends’ activities.
And as for consoles? Well, basically you can use "one unique profile" as either a new or existing Uplay member and "seamlessly access the full scope of Uplay services and features" on whichever next-gen machine you go with.
Ubisoft also mentions a Uplay Win program, which "rewards fans for their commitment to Ubisoft's brands" both with in-game and physical goodies, from accessories to event invitations. Apparently over 40 million such rewards have already been redeemed to date.
Uplay may not be the most popular (or functional) digital platform we've seen a publisher put forth, but Ubisoft is definitely trying to turn that around. Microsoft, on the other hand, decided to throw in the towel with Games for Windows LIVE.
