Doesn't surprise me. I have never seen a Midnight Launch like this in my entire life. I have about FIVE Gamestops/EB's in my neighborhood in Brooklyn, literally all walking distance from one another, or close to it. And there were over a thousand people on the line in the store closest to me. That is SICK when you start multiplying that out to all the retailers...and that's not even counting online retail sites.

Haha, I drove past four in Queens and the lines were all literally wrapped around the building. Thank God for preorders.

The other day a friend was telling me how he heard they made enough from pre-orders alone to make up the cost of the game, doesn't seem quite so farfetched now seeing that its not even half of what they made day-1.

I didn't go to a midnight launch, but when I went at like 4pm to pick my game up I had to wait in line for about 30 minutes then. Insane first day though, even if it's not that surprising.

And some people moaned that they spent £130m-odd on developing a game. Considering how big the series in, it was always gonna profit.

Bucks the trend anyway because iirc the gaming industry is struggling as a whole.

Another record for Rockstar? San Andreas already holds the record for biggest selling PS2 game.

Now let's see what tax revenue is raised from this.

I have to say I have a certain vicious joy that a good single player experience can still financially beast all those soulless online team deathmatch after team deathmatch style games

Not that GTA is fully offline but its not coming on for a while so all those people bought it for the single player, not just online.

CEO has the most out of it, not everyone.

Well, everyone crucial to the games development should get something. For the rest of the development team, Rockstar should throw them a big party! Beer and Strippers for everyone! haha

Not too surprised by this but I'm glad that R* has broken this record, and considering how much work they put into this game they deserve this

So how many copies does $800 million equate to?
Anyway, well done Rockstar. Very well deserved.
