On the eve of Grand Theft Auto V's release, why not play some Grand Theft Auto V... on your phone? Rockstar has launched the iFruit app for iOS devices, because what's better than actually playing a game? Playing a companion app that unlocks potentially cool things in the actual game. iFruit comes with two base features, the Los Santos Customs vehicle customizer and Chop the Dog the dog training game.
Those two features come in addition to a connection to LifeInvader and updates on newly released apps if you also login to the Rockstar Social Club. Also, you get plenty of that priceless Rockstar sass:
"How would we survive without apps? Apps can transform your mobile device into essential tools like a harmonica, disco ball or convincing moustache. Somewhere out there is the perfect storm of touchscreen technology to fix everything that’s wrong with your life. And maybe all you’re missing is the iFruit app. Maybe not. At least you’ll have something to keep you entertained while your significant other prattles on endlessly about their day."
Oh, Rockstar. How in the world did you manage to get your nonsense past Apple's pearly approval gates with so many warning labels and an "Over 16" rating? If you were anyone else Apple would never have allowed your app on the store.
Los Santos Customs will allow players to create their own vehicle which will be available in Grand Theft Auto V. Customizations include a license plate, paint jobs, window tints, smoke colors, wheels, hoods and spoilers, along with several upgrades to the car itself. If you're away from the console the car will be in the garage when you get back, or if you're playing you'll get a call to pick it up from the local mechanic.
Chop the Dog is a Grant Theft Auto V sidekick and this app lets you raise him right. Too much or too little attention will make for a grumpy dog, so make sure to take the time to raise Chop appropriately -- pet, feed, water, play and walk Chop as you will. Depending on how Chop is raised he'll help out in different ways in-game, like by sniffing out hidden items.
Grand Theft Auto V comes out tomorrow, September 17, on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. iFruit is now available on iOS devices with iOS 4.3 or later.
