Activision confirmed today that Call of Duty: Ghosts is the most pre-ordered game of 2013. Well, that's not very surprising at all, considering Call of Duty is pretty much a cultural phenomenon.
The news came today from the publisher when they were also announcing a pre-order collaboration with Eminem, whose new album will be discounted for anyone who reserved and picks up Ghosts at launch (participating retailers only). After all, what's a Call of Duty game without Eminem these days?
Activision's Senior VP of Merchandising is the one who remarked on the game's pre-order progress:
“Call of Duty is an entertainment juggernaut and cultural phenomenon. We are excited for the upcoming release of the new instalment of this blockbuster franchise. We look forward to celebrating the worldwide November launch of this great game that is on track to be the most pre-ordered title of the year.”
That said, we already know Ghosts still sits below predecessor Black Ops 2 in terms of numbers. In an investor call last month, Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg noted that this may be due to the fact that Ghosts is a cross-gen game, causing some "hesitation amongst past club pre-orders," as consumers are unsure of which version they want to get.
Call of Duty: Ghosts will be out November 5 for PS3, PC, Xbox 360, and Wii U, then later for Xbox One and PS4.
