Riot Games may have teased League of Legends' Sivir as getting a visual rework next during PAX, but that will have to wait. It appears they've face-checked a bush and discovered a patiently waiting Garen demanding his rework first. Stumbling upon a Garen is laughing matter, and so Riot is accelerating the process. Expect the handsome Might of Demacia's update soon.
As far as remakes go, Garen probably wasn't a priority for many League of Legends players. After all, there are at least a dozen other champions created earlier than Garen that look rather awkward compared to champions released recently. However, as artist Iron Stylus clarifies, Garen's a low risk remake compared to many others and was thus accelerated:
"I'll address this. We have to space out our champions from High-Risk to Low-Risk. If you've seen what we did at PAX, we've revealed Sivir, but we were honest in saying she wasn't next. All the champions you've mentioned are high-risk, with maybe the exception of Nasus.
Garen is Low-Risk and high reward. Not our worst executed champion, but of tremendous player value in how common/approachable/archetypal he is.
He was relatively "low cost" for how much value he'll bring to players.
Sion, Eve, etc, are all on the List. Sivir is coming up soon, but she also, was high-risk, requiring a lot of ideation.
I can non-hyperboilicly say that he's really epic in his execution and it's a well deserved VU."
Base Garen seems to have received a huge upgrade and that's not even taking account all the updated animations which surely look wonderful in motion. Some of his other skins, however, I'm not sold on. Rugged Garen in particular seems to have lost his ruggedness, which is terrible as that used to be my favorite skin of his. Some of the other heads and faces look off as well, though all the armor is very impressive.
Who is to say just when Garen's visual rework will be launching, as League of Legends tends to take a, "It'll be ready when it's ready," attitude to putting out content. Sivir will be coming after that, but as Iron Stylus says she's low priority and who is to say whether another high priority rework will pass right by her. Ah, these reworks are all so great! Amazing to see these old (is old appropriate) champions brought to life in a new way.
