Pokemon X and Pokemon Y megaton announcement incoming, in addition to the Pokemon Bank! Players will be getting not one, but two starters. The first will be either Chespin, Fennekin or Froakie as we already know. This Pokemon will be given to the player by a friend at the start of the game, not Professor Sycamore. Later, the Professor Sycamore will provide a second starter -- either Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle.
The news doesn't end there, though. Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle have now been confirmed to have their very own Mega Evolutions. That's right, Mega Venusaur, Mega Charizard, and Mega Blastoise are confirmed for Pokemon X and Pokemon Y! It's only fitting that the Pokemon that started many gamers' journeys will be part of the next evolution on Pokemon battling.
Behind Mega Evolution is some new tech that Nintendo also revealed today. In order to Mega Evolve there are two requirements. One is that the trainer is wearing a Mega Ring around their wrist, likely an item unlocked simply by progressing through the game. The second requirement is a Key Stone, which the Pokemon will be holding. The two items resonate to trigger the temporary Mega Evolution.
Everyone, it's super early so I might just not be thinking straight, but Mega first-generation starters? I can't even describe how awesome that is. For younger Pokemon players it might not be a big deal, but these three Pokemon have been through a lot with me and that they're here for the next step... well, it's very meaningful. Pokemon X and Pokemon Y will be launching on October 12 exclusively on the 3DS. Now with Mega Blastoise, Mega Charizard and Mega Venusaur. <3
Oh, did I mention we have a gameplay trailer? We have a gameplay trailer.
