Eight teams entered League of Legends' North American LCS Summer Split, but only one reigns supreme. Cloud 9 HyperX defeated Team SoloMid SnapDragon in a stunning 3 games to nil, proving that no team in North America will stand in their way of the championship. It's fitting then that their next challenge will be as part of the 14-team World Championship which will begin September 15.
Standing tall at the heart of Cloud 9 is MVP Meteos, whose died a mere single time in the three matches against Team SoloMid. With impeccable precision, Meteos is certainly the best jungler in North America. His ganks are aggressive and deviously timed, his team fighting a showcase of focus and positioning. He earns the MVP trophy even above team captain and mid-laner Hai's 7-3, 8-3, 7-1 ratios. Should I touch on Sneaky, Lemon and Balls, too? Each of them played above expectations.
Joining Cloud 9 at the League of Legends World Championships in sunny southern California will be both Team SoloMid and Vulcun TechBargains. Placing one, two, and three respectively, these teams fill out North America's three berths at the fourteen team tournament. They'll be joined by Europe's LemonDogs, Gambit BenQ, FNatic, Taiwan's regional champions Gamania Bears, Southeast Asia's Team Mineski, and the International Wildcard tournament winner GamingGear.EU. Korea and China have yet to have their regional tournaments yet, with three and two berths respectively.
Starting September 15 these fourteen teams will go through a three week gauntlet tournament to decide a world champion. The main event is on October 4 at the Los Angeles Staples Center, where tickets sold out in less than an hour! Demand was so high Riot is attempting to do some stage engineering magic to try and fit a few more people in the stands.
Of course, that's getting ahead of ourselves. Today is the day of Cloud 9! Seriously, they looked untouchable all Summer Split long and doubly so in the regional tournament. It's an exciting day for all North American eSports fans! Go Cloud 9! Go TSM! Go Vulcun!
