Wow, time flies! Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn has been relaunched and players can sign on right now and start killing cactuars immediately. It feels like it was just yesterday when the initial game's servers were taken down in preparation for today's big relaunch. Yet here we are. The best part about it? It seems like Square Enix has gone out of their way to respond to player complaints, and it shows by how popular the game has already become.
I've been playing Final Fantasy XIV for a while now, through the betas and then into open-beta and early release. It's quite possibly my favorite Final Fantasy experience in over ten years. Somehow the developers have captured that single player atmosphere in a multiplayer world. Fighting bombs and cactuars hasn't been so well-realized since FF9, or maybe even farther back. How did they manage to do it?
That said, due overwhelming response, Square Enix has admitted they're currently having server issues in both North America and Japan. They're in the process of expanding their datacenter, but it may take a week or so. In the mean time, there are capacity restrictions and queues on numerous servers. I'd recommend logging in early and AFKing until you're ready to play!
