Yeah, I only just got my CE today, in spite of it supposedly including early access and all that. Ah well, that's what happens when you import I suppose. Had to pay a $20 duty on top of shipping and all.

While I personally am not that interested, I do hope it does well. The better SE does with their final fantasy games, the more hope there is of having another great singleplayer game further ahead. So long as they don't make a bunch of bad sequels to their previous games... -cough- (FF13) -cough-

I don't think SE made the servers big enough. Its takes me about 7 to 8 times just to get a line for logging in.

They just need to increase the size, because they're congested badly.

The game is fantastic, when I am able to play it.

What is not fantastic is the server situation. SE has made leaps and bounds in their communication with the community since the launch of XI, however communication alone doesn't cut it. During the open beta, I was unable to play with my friends as the server they had chosen was closed to character creation shortly after phase 4 started. During the early access weekend... again, I was only able to play a small handful of hours, maybe four or so because of the login restrictions and maintenance. Yesterday when I arrived home from work I had to consciously attempt to login for over an hour and a half before successfully being able to play the game.

Granted, this is just me being a tad disgruntled, but I would contend that it is ridiculous that these problems are arising, and for the following reasons:

Previous failure of the game: The game has already failed once, and very badly at that. So much so that they had to basically redo the entire implementation of the game. To put it into perspective, running the initial beta three years ago was something my system could barely handle. When I played the open beta two weekends ago, I could easily run everything on high with the same system. Because the game has already failed, it is paramount that it launches smoothly and successfully. However, going into the official launch of the game, login restrictions are still in place to maintain "server stability."

Non-functional login queues during login restriction: Why aren't the login queues working the last three days under the login restrictions? This is such a simple thing to do and the benefit is astounding. As it stands currently, I have to make an effort to continually login to the game to have a chance to play (error 1017 - Server is full, please try again later). This is insanity. What is so hard about adding players to a login queue during these "login restrictions"? Even if I'm person number 2305 and it takes two hours, I'm fine with that, at least I don't have to spend that two hours spamming my keyboard to get a chance to play.

The ratio of JP:NA/EU servers: There are 25 servers for the JP region, and 25 servers for NA/EU regions. Really, what kind of sense does this make? Before even getting into specifics, what kind of sense does this make conceptually? Do they really expect the subset of people in Japan that play the game to be equal to the subset of people playing the game in the entire rest of the world? SE should have an ungodly amount of meta-data regarding how many people play their game and from what regions. This data obviously coming from FFXI and the first launching of FFXIV should be able to give them insight into making a more reasonable decision other than 50% JP and 50% everyone else.

These things are so simple... it just doesn't make any sense as to why they aren't being addressed.

KalEEna I feel very similarly. I have little time after work to play in the first place, I'm not going to sit at the login screen spamming on the offchance that I can get in without a queue.
Regarding your third point, I'm not sure it's as out of sync as it might seem. Apparently they have been having very similar troubles with server congestion in Japan. That said, I've seen the NA list down at least 3 times and never the JP one...
While it's certainly very frustrating when you're experiencing it, I'm personally not too upset given the conditions, but it is unfortunate.

Just to clarify, there are no load issues on the japanese servers. They've been up and running and have had maintenance routines that didn't require anybody log out.

NA/EU, on the other hand, doesn't have the infrastructure. They didn't want to spend early, but wanted to see what the demand was outside of their home territory before they spent anything, and that's going to kick them in the balls hard before the month is over.

The thing is, they didn't expect this game to be so damn popular.

FFXIV's had two launches, and with them went from "Worst MMO in History" to "So popular the servers can't handle all the people who want to play"

They're currently working on adding more data centres for all regions, so the load should be a lot better over the next week or two.

Plan on making my cat person a paladin and the Mrs. is going to be a catgirl whether she likes it or not.

...I think Ren of Heavens is starting to rub off on me.

I'm also beyond pleased to hear that Uematsu returned for 14.

Gotta love dat chocobo theme song.

I think somebody mentioned on the official forums that a free server transfer was going to be hitting players in a month or so, but i'm digging for confirmation on that. If we can play on JP servers for the time being and transfer out when this chit is handled, then i'm all cool beans.
