This isn't the story to me. The story is everyone's ridiculous reaction. How is anyone surprised by this? Watch a single trailer for this game and it's obvious it's a subscription-based MMO. Any other business model would require it to be a completely different game.

$15 a month would be the steepest price I've seen for MMO subscription fees. I dunno about this, Bethesda.

It is a bit high, but I expect that it'll go F2P, or drop in price at least within 6 or 8 months, perhaps a year on the outside.

I sorta doubt it'll go F2P tbh, i reckon it'll do well enough on subscription to keep it that way.

Why am I not surprised?

I'll just hope it gets cheaper through time.

Is $15 a month really a lot of money for people? If it is something you want to do and are going to put the time in playing an MMO, how is $15 a month too much?

so what exactly is this subscription paying for if they're still selling character/account services and fluff in an item mall. usually these things are covered by... you know, the *bleep*ing sub. someone's got dollar signs in their eyes over at bethesda.

I don't like hearing this. $15 a month is already a bit steep. One can make the argument "But they provide new content all year long!". So do other MMORPGs. If stuff normally free with other Pay to Play MMOs is considered additional charges...Just how much are we getting with the $15?

I mean, I'm not fancying paying $180/year. I'm definitely giving TESO a shot, and I might like it a lot, but I'm wondering if they are banking too much on the Elder Scrolls name to push the higher than normal sub fee.

Mind, there is a lot of lore and land to work into the game (even though a lot of Tamriel won't be available at the start).

No offense, but I love the irony going on between what you said and your username. XD

haha

Anyone have a reply to my question though? How much do people spend on other stuff that is more than $15 a month, and how long does it last...

It's all relative to how much you are willing to spend on what I guess, and what it's worth to each individual.

Funny thing is... people will go to a restaurant and spend $15 in ONE MEAL, yet this amount is too much to pay for an ENTIRE MONTH.

I heard there was only 3 different classes to choose from but they they still want $15? Dark souls 2 is a superior game that comes out around the same time with no monthly fee.
