In the latest issue of Famitsu it was revealed that location testing had begun for a new, sequel version of Persona 4 Arena. The new version of the game features two additional characters from Persona 3, Junpei Iori and Yukari Takeba. In addition, Arc System Works is adding a dynamic that allows players to decide between Normal-type and Shadow-type for each character. Of course, there are several smaller mechanic changes as well.
Normal-type selections will allow for the use of Bursts, where Shadow-type implements a new system named Shadow Rage. When SP is maxed, Shadow Rage can be activated to allow for unlimited SP Skills and Skill Boosts, as well as canceling Skills into others, for a limited time. Both types, in addition to the differences above, have auto-combos unique to each type.
As with typical version upgrades for fighting games, Persona 4 Arena will be recieving extensive balance changes -- especially considering the radically changes being made to the game. Each character will have new skills and play in a different manner in subtle ways from before.
For now the new version of Persona 4 Arena will be going through location tests in arcades in Japan. Hopefully we'll hear more on a retail release and potential localization in the months ahead. Maybe in time for next year's EVO?
Thanks for the tip, Rabla!
