It seems like we've gone over many of the finer details relating to the Xbox One's controller quite a few times over the past few months, but perhaps never in video form. Today Microsoft released an "Insider's Look" at the Xbox One's next-gen controller, giving perspective on some of the "over 40" major changes Microsoft has made to the device.
Xbox General Manager of Accessories Zulfi Alam, the man behind many of the breakthroughs on the controller, pairs up with Major Nelson for the video. Most of the time Zulfi Alam seems to have some very interesting things to say, but Major Nelson is constantly twisting questions or focusing on language and I ended up getting a headache. I'd love to watch Zulfi talk just for 30 minutes about the controller and why it's exciting. No Nelson required.
I've had the privilege of handling the Xbox One controller twice now, both at E3 and SDCC. The one thing I can 100% confirm that Zulfi says a few times is that it doesn't necessarily feel different than the Xbox 360 controller. Improving the functionality and tech of the controller while retaining the comfort and recognition fans have seems to be their goal, and from what I can tell they've knocked it out of the park.
Check out the "Insider's Look at the Xbox One Controller" below and maybe you'll learn something that they haven't talked about before. I, for one, didn't know that the controller works as both a wireless and wired device. Just plug on a USB cord and boom, instant wired controller. No need for them to sell two types of the peripheral. Hooray for wallets across the globe!
