"coming from"

The proofreader strikes again!

I think Amazon could succeed where the Ouya has (arguably) failed. Rather than a $99 device, Amazon could create a $300 or so device that could play all android games currently on the market, and offer developers room to spread their wings, so to speak.

I don't really see it being on the level of next gen devices though (maybe current gen, I dunno). I don't think the Android platform is that ideal for gaming performance, is it?

I've heard good things about Nvidia's tegra chip set but thats about it. A lot people seem to think it has the potential to at least take a chunk out of the casual market once people catch onto playing games on the TV with a bluetooth gamepad. I could see that happening for people who buy a console for just one game but not for quite a while yet, and they'd have to convince people to pay console prices for console quality games.

I think Amzon has a pretty good shot at making a successful Android console, since they'll probably have Amzon Prime and all that tied to it. The Kindle Fire has done pretty well so people might buy one to complement it.

UH, HELL NO.

If this thing has anything to do with the way they made their Kindle Fires (You know, their other Android-based device) it will be a piece of shit, where you have to pay a subscription in order to do ANYTHING with it. Amazon Prime costs $80 per year, more than the XBone will for Crist's sake. And then after paying that much money, for the console and everything, all you get are lousy Android games that you could play on your phone.

I question this...

How could they have possible kept such a project secret for so long with a projected release later this year?

This sounds completely implausible.

Uh, you do know that prime includes their "prime" shipping program, video streaming, and all that, right? Not a member myself but its actually a bit cheaper than Netflix.

The Kindle Fire on the other hand is pretty much their way of insuring that you spend your money on their services rather than the competition. I have one and besides that its a pretty decent budget/entery level tablet, especially for children.

Aye Zombie_Barioth , they are good mid-tier tablets hardware-wise (I've owned both of the models ) but they're only good with a nice custom firmware, otherwise you're left with the stock crapware that limits you to being forced into the Prime service in order to install or do almost anything. It may come with the movie service (which I've heard has stolen a lot of packages from Netflix, so it can't be that bad), but if the consoles end up being like they're tablets (aka XBox clones that only play phone games) then it sounds like a huge bust.

That being said, I now highly doubt this is coming. And if it does, hats off to the poor suckers who fall for the thing.

Yea, thats certainly true. Thats what I'm talking about, the whole idea behind the Kindle is to box you into using their services. Its not a bad thing if you already use their services but thats about it, thats where Prime proves its monies worth. So I'm sure their console would be the same way, it might actually be more ofa set-top box than a console. I have a feeling Amazon is trying to create an Apple-like ecosystem where everything has to go through them.

I have an Ouya and its ok, it just needs more good games. If Amazon moves into this space and manages to get some good games built then I say this is a good thing.

I wonder if this will finally be a high powered android console, there is a market for that I think.

Really hoping that this rumour is false, there doesn't need to be another Android based console already. Just leave Android to phones and tablets where it works best.
