Good on them. There's nothing wrong with modding a console overall, but modding and hacking it in order to circumvent their security and steal the games they're trying to sell is taking it a bit too far.

By the way, is Florica supposed to be Florida?

RabidChinaGirl you need to correct a bit that statement, it seems that the 3DS gateway is already released on the market, but it's so limited i am not surprised it went off the radar, so far it supports all games sans AC, which will be added to it via firmware update.

It's amazing how people always find a way to steal/cheat/hack/exploit things.

And it will never end.

I disagree, R4 can be used for homebrew which is fine, it's what people do with them which is bad. Think of it like this, you don't sue Ford because they make cars which faster than the speed limit.

I'm not interested in playing pirated games.

I just want to get rid of the regional lockout on my 3DS.

Perhaps making it easier for homebrew games to get into to market would help as well. The development kits and licenses cost upwards of tens of thousands of pounds. Surely they could just put them on the Nintendo eShop and take a cut of the profits like others would.

Duncan Idaho Mm, thanks. I figured as much, but Nintendo doesn't seem quite as sure.

I cannot perfectly confirm it given i do not own a 3DS *yet* but from what i read only one game per micro SD card, no backing up saves, and it cannot play Animal Crossing, due to a problem in how the game writes to the NAND part, that is what makes me believe it's the 3DS one, almost all DS flashcard can play animal crossing, and the blue card prepares the 3DS by doing something to it's software so you can use the gateway, that is what makes me believe it's out,

Wait, that's the one you're talking about? I think Nintendo already put out an update to block it.

Gateway 3DS still works with the latest available firmware, 6.1. something, nintendo couldnt have put out a firmware update given that the card wasn't available until a week ago

I completely agree. Unless the company is actually selling pirated games, Nintendo shouldn't be doing this. Just because people abuse good addons doesn't mean those who use them legitimately should be punished.

I had a cheap version of the R4 for my DS that I had bought so I could access some music and videos without carrying both a DS Lite and an iPod. I also used it to cheat in Animal Crossing and just get absurd items, but that could have been done with Action Replay.

Now, the one being released, or maybe already out, may not be completely necessary for media. But, Nintendo shouldn't be using litigation. If they don't want it done just release strong security. The Wii was a joke in terms of security against hacking/soft-modding.

They also need to do away with region locking, which would actually result in one less reason for people to mod.

I liked the R4 cards on my DS because I could keep all my games with me at once on one card, and if I wanted a new game I could test it before buying it. It also had the emulators and homebrew, but I mostly used it for the cheats.

If I still had a 3DS I'd probably buy a flash cart for it, but it's really not worth it until they figure out how to run 3DS backups (whenever they figure out how to access 3DS mode).
