Anita Sarkeesian is still at it with her Kickstarted Tropes vs. Women in Video Games video series. With the third episode, Anita moves ahead to a topic I've personally been looking forward to: Dudes becoming Damsels.
The overall theme of the series has been dealing with various types of "Damsels in Distress" found in video games, and how the tropes are thrown about shamelessly in the various stories governing out favorite games. Some of the examples are definitely better than others, but hopefully, at least a few did resonate with you guys.
Either way, the newest episode talks about situations in games where the lady becomes the hero and ends up having to bust a friend or romantic interest out of crappy situations. Hey, it does happen now and then. Don't worry: most games still feature bros saving chicks, if you were worried about your games suddenly being overrun by female empowerment or something.
While the video starts out with a few instances of Dudes in Distress -- namely in the late '90s and early 2000s -- Anita goes on to dissect the indie genre and their use of the Damsel trope.
As always, Anita does try to throw in some humor to soften the issues for her viewers. Comments on YouTube are still disabled, however, so we assume the rage and backlash haven't subsided.
