It's a bit disturbing when she says that a hunky blond guy does not reinforce any male stereotype... really, Anita? You don't see a stereotype there?

The reason is simple, she doesnt care about impartiality or balance. Equality or fairness. She cares about what she sees as the endless oppression of women by some... divine all powerful capitalist pig (i guess?). Her arguments are all ludicrous and totally made of straw, can be easily reversed using her own logic to prove games are sexist against men and generally is just a stupid woman. She keeps doing it because its free money, look at what shes done so far. This is (1/4?) of the entire series, do you see 25,000 dollars worth of anything in this? Nope, its pure profit right into her pocket. Theres maybe 2 days worth of work goes into one of these videos, its lower quality than what many youtubers put out several times per day but people threw money at her.

To top it all off, when people point out these irregularities in her message she responds by blocking ratings and comments and playing the part of the victim. Its quite funny but sickening at the same time

It's also little wonder that Beyond Good And Evil is one of her favorite games since it depicts at least one man as a pig.

Make that justified backlash. So many good arguments against her it's not even funny anymore.

Aulis Vaara : dont say that, you're now one of the big boogiemen who want to silence her critical and important message to the world. God forbid people have legitimate counter arguments, they must all be heathens who want to enslave women. *Insert inane crying etc*

That's probably why she got so ridiculously famous in the first place reeally. People wanted to counter the arguments, complain, discuss, to talk about what she said. In doing so wherever they found a suitable place, they spread the word of her existence. Nothing is being attacked here in any new way after all, feminism-based criticism of video games is not new, nor is it anything to be afraid of unless you like games from EA, who plan to use her fame to make money off Mirror's Edge 2.

All I know is, I watched episode one of this stuff, haven't bothered since. A true exploration of concepts and industry position, in an effort to advance gaming to better ground, moral or otherwise, does not pit an idea against the industry. There is no Women vs Games discussion that should be had. None. You don't want a vs, you want both sides to meet in the middle. Vs implies a victor. And in that battle, there is no victor.

I'm sorry, but she is just making no effect on me whatsoever.
She looks at what's apparent without looking deeper into it, and that's not how a feminist should judge a character.
I mean, Lara Craft has huge... bosoms and other amazing features, but look at her in the game. She's stronger than a good half of the men in any game. Same can be said with her "Damsels in Distress" thing with Princess Zelda and Peach. Zelda is perhaps the last hope of Hyrule in many occasions and is the holder of the triforce of wisdom, making her of more importance and of more power than most the characters in the story.
She just seems to be looking at the blatant negatives and not about the abundant positives of most of these characters and topics.

While her methods might be antagonistic for a lot of people, I do appreciate folks who are willing to discuss this kind of stuff. Hey, progress is never made by those who sit around twiddling their thumbs, waiting for it to just fall on them.

Heck, if we all stayed quiet, Halo wouldn't have such awesome characters like Sarah Palmer and Kat, and ODST Dare. Gears wouldn't have started putting in female characters (having Karen Traviss take the writing wheel was great too). The mainstream shift is just nice to see, honestly.

While I do feel that the "damsel" role is overused, women in trouble isn't exactly too farfetched in certain contexts, like in The Witcher (and similar games with darker tones), a series that does not shy away from torture and r*pe (actual word is censored by Neo lol). Unfortunately, women are often victims in real life, and putting that sort of content is forcing us to face these. In that respect, I don't mind women being in the role of vulnerability. Still, seeing women actually get shit done in movies, games, books, etc. is pretty damn great. Lara in the new Tomb Raider, for instance; getting her ass kicked, then handing it back tenfold.

So methods aside, I think Anita's intent is good, at least. Take it how you will (and bring on the downvotes). If this video doesn't grab you, I can understand that too. It's not like I agree with everything she says either. I simply appreciate that she's making this effort.

Thats what I don't like about a lot of this women in games debate. For people like Anita there is no middle ground, its either their way or it doesn't count. Theres a place for tropes and a place for new ideas and everything in between, just because the main protagonist isn't a women doesn't make a game sexist.

Anita has already made it perfectly clear several times that she won't except anything less than a plethora of games staring "strong" female protagonists in the most positive ways possible. I'm all for more female protagonists but to assert anything else is completely unacceptable is absurd.

I guess we'll never know.

If you want a counterpoint, there's Thunderf00t's 'Feminism versus Facts' videos. And he has comments enabled, so you can feel free to rip him one if you disagree.

I've seen said on other like videos.
Feminism is now seemingly for female superiority.
an Egalitarian is for equality.

so her views are skewed in one direction, you just have to understand that point

it's still youtube though. for every good argument there are at least 50 insults and a dozen "no U" arguments every half minute.

if i knew before hand i'd be stepping on someone's dick i would probably do the same, it saves time and energy to talk about it with better folks without the uncontrolled immature mob around it.

edit:
oh and it's vacation now. so that means even more people have time for youtube.
