Sad day for Vita owners as one of the big upcoming exclusive releases for the handheld, Tearaway, has been delayed. It's not too bad of a delay, only a month, but knowing that you'll now have to wait until November 22 to play Tearaway is still a rather disappointing thought. Previously announced for a mid-October release, the new date will place the game in direct competition with the next-gen consoles. Oh dear, hopefully this isn't a bad idea.
Here's part of a statement released by Media Molecule detailing the reason behind the delay:
"We are now in the final stages of development, and have come to the realisation that we need a little more time than we anticipated to finish the game; to tie all of the mechanics, story and amazing visuals together into the adventure that we want you to play. To give us that time, we’ve decided to move the release date by one month, from mid-October, to November 22nd. "
Media Molecule isn't the sort of company to make a decision like this unless absolutely necessary, but at the same time publisher Sony would. What I mean to say is that this holiday season is hugely important for Sony. They've likely got a marketing and sales war room constantly evaluating release dates and such. It seems to me like Tearaway is being position as Sony's number one Vita release for this holiday season.
Whatever the reason for Tearaway's delay, Media Molecule will certainly take the extra time to make sure their game is of a quality that fans will be ecstatic about. The delay hurts, sure, but Vita fans likely know this one will be worth the wait.
