I've thoroughly enjoyed both Dragon Age installments so far (and all involved add-ons), and I'm pretty pumped for Inquisition. Dragon Age 2 brought some significant improvements in my opinion, but also made a lot of missteps.

From the sound of it, Bioware is well aware of what worked and didn't work, and are developing Inquisition accordingly. You'll get no complaints here; I'm pumped.

Though I was pretty disappointed about quite a few things, I still enjoyed DA2.

happy to hear that the next DA won't have a silent protagonist like in origins, which made it hard for me to get involved with the character seeing as he or she felt so lifeless.

This just makes me want to play DA origins now. -.-

I couldn't even finish DA2, admittedly that was more to do with how buggy it played for me than disappointment and frustration at the content, although there was some of that too.

If I hear good things about Inquisition after it releases I'll more than likely return to the series, but I absolutely will not be pre-ordering, after my experience with DA2 I need to be convinced this will be worth it before I part with my cash.

I don't think DA2 was a bad RPG on its own, but for something attached to the Dragon Age series, which already seemed defined by Origins/Awakening, DA2 was pretty damn jarring.

All personal opinions aside though, that game had some darn lazy design and writing.

Design? Couldn't agree more. When you go from being able to span a whole country to a city and 3 reused environments, it's terrible. However, I thought the writing was terrific. The Templar/Mage conflict and how it all unfolded was amazing.

In the end, if they can put in the level of work done in Origins and combine it with everything good in DA2? Consider my wallet $60 lighter and with 100 hours less in my life.

Darknet My main issue with the writing lies in character progression and how badly some of the characters are written. Examples include Anders' 180-degrees shift from Awakening and becoming a whiny little sack of useless. Yet they try to force in moments where he'll joke around or say things the old Anders would say, like they couldn't decide what Anders should be.

SPOILERS, EVERYONE!

Sebastian (DLC) is another. No fully-realized relationship path (don't put one in if you're going to half-ass it), and he does a complete 180 as well at the end driven by rage (depending on what you decide for Anders), completely abandoning his personality/behavior from 99% of the game.

The head of the mages loses his shit and turns into an Abomination regardless of who you side with. "WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE!" "It's okay, me and my friends are right here. We saved the city over and over again, remember?" "WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE! THIS IS THE ONLY WAY!" Blood everywhere, abomination fight ensues.

I facepalm myself into oblivion.

Lesson of the day: Inconsistent characters are sloppy writing and make me crai.

Yeah, I'll give you that. They had a different writer for Anders compared to Awakening. So he was a totally different person by all means.

I'm not trusting any promise from Bioware after their recent shenanigans(DAII, ME2/3, SW:TOR)
Maybe I would however, if they were to completely separate from EA and go to a better publisher like Bethesda Softworks...
