How is the Oculus Rift, a VR headset that's only available in a development kit form, becoming such an outstandingly huge hit in the industry? Support in most major modern game engines, support consideration by next-gen hardware developers, and dozens of awesome small games and tech demos. Why, it's because of their voice in the community. For example, this newly announced VR Jam being run in partnership with IndieCade.
Oculus and IndieCade's VR Jam will be a three week contest, challenging developers to create made-for-VR experiences and games designed specifically for the Oculus Rift headset. Winners with the most innovative products will receive $10,000 and a trip to present their demo at the IndieCade Festival 2013 in Culver City. With over $50,000 in prizes available, expect some amazing submissions.
The VR Jam begins on August 2 and will run through August 25. Everyone is welcome to participate, though testing your product may be a bit difficulty with the Oculus Rift dev kit. However, if you're near the University of Souther California or New York University "Playtest Hubs" will be available for testing.
