Ah, Runescape. Since 2001, Runescape has has done nothing but grow and for the time being is still recognized by Guiness World Records as the world's largest free MMORPG. In 2004 Runescape 2 introduced fully 3D graphics to the persistent world and now in 2013 Runescape 3 brings a slew of new updates. Did I mention it's free and available right now? It is.
Phil Mansell, Executive Producer of RuneScape 3, provided the following comments:
Considering just how many MMOs I've played over the years, I'm still surprised I've never found the time to try out Runescape. Generally speaking, I tend to avoid free-to-play games, and not even generally speaking I absolutely avoid browser-based games that last longer than 15 minutes. With the release of Runescape 3, I think I'll have to give-in and finally try the game out.
Unfortunately Runescape 3's main additional feature, the HTML 5 engine, is not available for full release and will remain available in buggy beta form. That hasn't stopped Jagex from continuing forward with launch, as they believe their new dynamic "Battle of Lumbridge" content and the UI/technical upgrades are enough to relaunch the game. Check it out now, for free, and see if they were right to do so.
