With this latest batch of screenshots and concept art for Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, I'm out of reasons not to be ridiculously excited about the game. I'm a huge fan of pirate anything -- pirate books, pirate movies, pirate video games. When Ubisoft announced the actual boat that inspired AC4's Jackdaw would be at SDCC, I smiled the largest of smiles. To celebrate, they've released a bunch of concept art related to the Jackdaw's design with regards to combat and utility as well as a ton of other fun images.
Pirate ships, maps, stabbing sharks in the face with a harpoon from a dingy, everything is really coming together for Assassin's Creed IV. I'm falling in love not only with the pirate-themed action in Assassin's Creed IV, but also the depth Ubisoft is going to in order to create a pirate-themed experience around the marketing of the game.
Still, this is an Assassin's Creed game and that means a lot considering the franchise's storied and controversial past. The fact we have yet to really hear how Black Flag ties into the greater Assassin's Creed experience is either telling or misleading. I suppose in my mind it's fitting, considering the mystery the developers and publisher like to keep around the game. Doesn't mean I like it, though.
Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag launches on PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii U on October 29 in North America, followed by PlayStation 4 and Xbox One releases when each console launches.
