League of Legends' Season 3 is, without a doubt in my mind, the best eSports experience I've ever witnessed. It's almost mind-boggling to me that the World Championships are yet again right on our doorstep. Riot knows they're lining up the biggest competitive gaming event North America has yet seen. It only fits, then, that the Season 3 World Championships will be held at the Staples Center here in Los Angeles.
Starting September 16, 14 international teams will converge and battle until only two teams remain. The semi-finals will be played at the USC Galen Center (which will almost certainly sell out), the finals will be played at the Los Angeles Staples Center. One team will walk away with the $1 million first prize and another million will be reserved for other placing teams. Things are getting out of hand!
As far as entires for the World Championships, here are the regional allotments:
- North America - 3 entries
- Europe - 3 entries
- Southeast Asia - 2 entries
- China - 2 entries
- Korea - 3 entries
- International Wildcard - 1 entry
Both North America and Europe received an automatic three entries, while Korea earned its third by winning the mid-season All-Star tournament. The final, International Wildcard slot, will be decided at a last-chance tournament during Gamescom. More details on that later, I'm certain.
Sounds like I'll be going to the Staples Center for the League of Legends Season 3 World Championship. That's a large stadium with lots of seats to fill, so I hope to see everyone there! With over eight million likely viewers online, a stadium is nothing. We'll put out the ticket information just as soon as we get ahole of it. League of Legends... damn.
