I was able to see Payday 2 at E3 and was able to walk out and confidently say I had barely scratched the surface of the game. I'd played a single map, similar in many ways to the experience of the original Payday, but I'd also gotten a quick look into the robust customization and progression system behind the game. It was a lot to take in and I'm still not entirely sure what I saw. Luckily, Overkill's latest trailer helps us out.
Titled "What is Payday 2?" the latest trailer sees Game Director David Goldfarb talking about no only the new RPG mechanics of the game, but also the game's pacing and attitude. Maybe we should be asking, "What if Heat was a cooperative shooter RPG?" and we'd finally have our answer as to what Payday 2 is. Essentially, it boils down to a crime fantasy simulation.
Payday 2 will be released August 13 on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. In fact, 505 Games just sent us an update announcing that the game will have a Collector's Edition for release. If gamers want to pick Payday 2 up at retail, they can upgrade to the full $60 collector's edition, which includes:
- Full game
- $100 Bill Wallet
- Soundtrack CD
For the same price as a standard game, that seems like a steal to me. Check out the full trailer below and look forward to more Payday 2 news and impressions very soon.
