Might have to give this a shot. I didn't realize it was such a dramatic improvement over the original crapbucket.

I could never understand people who would say, "The game looks great, but I would never pay a subscription fee." I mean... damn... you can't afford 13 bucks a month? Not buy a pizza one day out of the month... Not buy that burger meal from jack in a box... Not go to a movie that month. A trip to an IMAX theater cost more than this a month, and in the theater I just watch one movie...

This game gives you an epic journey with constant updates, upon updates that takes the story in new directions, not to mention the people you meet. If you say you want to play, but will never pay for subscription fees. You are selling yourself short of one hell of an adventure.

Not to mention do you know how much money you actually save by playing this game? You turn into a person who has fun everytime they pick up the controller for 13 bucks a month, instead of that dude that buys 2-3 games a month looking for something new paying 180 bucks a month. Buying Call of duty in September, and then buying it again when it comes out again next September is more costly than paying 39.99 for final fantasy and a year's subscription. Think of the 13 a month is for never ending DLC.... never ending as in they are always constantly giving you update after update after update.

But you'll pay 59.99 for Call of duty, and then buy 5 map packs at 14.99 a piece, and then turn around next September get the new Call of Duty again for 59.99 and buy 4 new map packs again at 14.99 a piece???.... HA!!!

One more way to put it... Paying for 1 year of subscription costs 156 bucks... If you buy 3 games that year... you already passed me in gaming costs homeboy!!! Let's not even talk about if you purchased any DLC for those said games...

I personally prefer a subscription based game. I've played a few F2P now, Star Wars tor, lord of the rings etc and found that if you want to play the game to the fullest, it will more often than not cost more with the micro transactions, and in my opnion they weren't all that good anyway, kept my attention for 2-3 months max, and the last few weeks were drawn out. No thanks, i'd rather pay the sub and enjoy the full game. FF11, perfect example, haven't found an MMO I liked better. WoW is also still a sub based game although it never appealed to me in the 2 trials I played, but it's numbers speak for themselves. Probably comes down to personal preference, evidenced above. The payment model ultimately influences the player base. I do agree with what canasta said though, because you are paying for it, you tend to keep on it, sometimes just for the sake of it.
What I didn't like especially was paying a fortune for the game, then the subscription, then the game being boring and incredibly, ridiculously easy (i'm looking at you star wars!) and then!!! releasing as F2P, because it wasn't good enough for people to pay for it, bioware have had a massive middle finger from me ever since.
That aside, I too have been on the beta test and I do say it looks promising, even as an incomplete game at the present.
I also do prefer the group dynamic, I can't wait to drop into the fight again with my job, to do it right and that feeling of achievement with your comrades.
I do feel there are few skills to use etc, however, I would prefer not to endless bash hot keys throughout a battle until it is dead, it takes away the strategy "oh I hit the button too soon, never fear, I can use it again in 10 secs", it just takes away the magic for me.

As a foot note, we have to look at what new mmos have to compete with, technically very old games with loyal followings and years worth of content that would take simply unrealistic amounts of money for a new game to compete with. Just a thought to leave you all with. Have fun

mmm you guys have yet to learn the meaning of why they do it.. if you guys notice that f2p like some people ay are p2w.. why would you play a game honestly that gets bad support and on top of that people who spend buttloads of money then the games worth on cash shops.. you guys really plan to spend time into a free game with shops that make all the people with money spend more on slots and such for you to enjoy a game for free.. its ridiculous.. get 15 bucks a month stop complaining.. id rather pay monthly for a game then spend 100 bucks on bag slots and character slots.. im sorry but i agree with square enix on this.. everyone is just too dense to realize the micro transactions add up.. enjoy ur f2p game and let square enix get my monthly.. as i will enjoy this game with 100 thumbs up i like it..

People dont want to pay a sub therefore they cant afford it? Please stop you are only making yourself look under 16 and/or stupid.

In my years on mmos its clear that the p2p games have much stronger communities and much much much better feedback from the devs. The amount of games coming out at the moment for £40+ that are 4-10 hours long is stupid. I would happily pay a sub knowing that the game is going to last a very long time and give some enjoyable and some 'oh shit' moments. Square know they have to nail this game and keep up with it after the previous version so I imagine the game will have constant updates and always new content. Also its FF, need I say more?

Btw most people that won't pay sub for any games are pretty much under which is good in some ways because of the trolling foul mouth ruined it for the rest of the community they want to trash talk when loosing in a skirmishes. Tell me if I am wrong and a lot of grown up play but they can pretty much ignore the other person. I rather P2P have a better balance game better community balance classes not having 2 op the rest useless in pvp. Plus having a good groups of GMS to handle spams bots and the scammers. most f2p games community sucks p2w no Gms around to much trash talking of why am I even playing this game. that just my 2 cents.

Angelus Jul 16, 13 - Ur an idiot. It cost 30 bucks plus monthly subscription which pays for extra content down the line including new Jobs and Classes and new events etc. U are paying to keep the game from going stale once u reach endgame. *bleep*ing noobs

Duncan square is gonna release cards similar to the psn cards that you can purchase at major retailers or your local game stores. So the currency shouldn't be a problem will it?

Sony removed all videogame associated stores in the country and most of their music ones too.
