Great article. I agree that the combat is going to turn away a lot of players. It really seems quite simple and basic initially, until you realise there's a lot of emphasis on positioning for bonus damage and constant movement to avoid AoE attacks.

That being said, the one thing I love most about the game is the atmosphere. I felt immersed and invested from start, something every recent mmo has failed to do

I tested the beta at phase 3. It was fun the community was just as awesome as in FFXI online. The combat flows and I love the music the music is the best like always. I cannot wait until phase 4 to play again. Duncan Yes, the game is a monthly subscription. I have the ps3 CE ordered.

and so any intrest i had on this game vanishes, i find stupid the idea of monthly subscriptions tbh.

I have actually really enjoyed Phase 3 and I'm extremely excited for launch! It's very well written, which surprises me for an MMO, but considering this is Final Fantasy, it's less surprising. Although, depending on your class, you don't actually get the cart entrance, I played as a Marauder and started out on boat. But the game is very promising!

It isn't really that stupid of a concept when you consider how much playtime is put into an MMO. I imagine if I checked the number of hours (days) I played the game and divided it by the added up costs from the subscription, I'd come out way more "cost-effectively" than most single-player games (there are obviously some real exceptions). Though, if you don't have much free time, and just want some occasional playtime, you probably lose out there.

Plus, almost every F2P model has a horrible cash shop that reeks of P2W. Path of Exile is about the only game that is absent of that (excluding MAYBE the stash space).

In regards to the article, I pretty much agree with everything. The combat is definitely my least-favorite characteristic of it, since I prefer much faster-paced gameplay. It really ruins the experience for me and honestly.

Judging what ive read about combat, this game sounds like a much deeper much prettier White Knight Chronicles. Which doesnt make me very excited.

The game is good indeed but just like Duncan said, there's no way I'm paying a monthly fee for any game.

Yay4sean What is Square Enix doing to merit the monthly payment? When you're paying for it, you are more or less tethering yourself to play the game and get into the mentality of putting priority on it rather than other games you want to play.

Path of Exile and Guild Wars are doing just fine without monthly subs.

Subscriptions model only apply to mexico, US, Canada and Europe, and Japan i guess, but everybody else? *bleep* you south america and 90% of center America, i would love to play this but i have no way of paying for subscription since SE demands $ or € and at the moment south america is less dollar or euro reliant, so SE instead of searching for a way to appeal the continent go the way most video game companies go "nah *bleep* it too much trouble" anything that is subscription based is impossible for me to play.

Thanks SE! for neglecting an entire continent yet again!.

I'm hoping to get at least a month or two of fun out of this.

I'm hoping that if I lapse between updates, I can just start up my subscription again and play as if I never left?

Definitely going mage. I always do. Worried about being too squishy though. Hopefully instead of being able to last long, I'll be able to kill fast eh?

Not going to get it cause if I spend 100 bucks on the gatme and have to pay a monthly sub on top, I will not invest my time or money in it.

Too bad square.
