Namco Bandai surprised us all this weekend by announced that Tales of Xillia 2 would be coming westward, to Europe and the US, in 2014. It's not surprising that it'll be localized, rather, it's surprising that it was announced before the first Tales of Xillia has yet to be released! Tales of Xillia 2 will be a PlayStation 3 exclusive and hopefully cut into that unfortunate 2-year localization delay for the Tales franchise.
You see, Tales of Xillia, when it's released on August 6, will come in at just a month short of two years since it was originally released in Japan. A two year delay for a popular franchise title from Tales! Tales of Xillia 2 was released a bit more than a year after the first was, so if Namco Bandai can even a few month off of the delays it would go a long way. Maybe it would even set them up to launch their next Tales game globally.
After all, whatever their plan was for such hugely delayed localizations, it may have backfired considering the PlayStation 4 will be region-free. If players get sick of waiting they may just pick up the Japanese release of the game. While that's still a sale for Namco Bandai, it's only going to hurt their localization sales down the line.
Don't expect much info on Tales of Xillia 2 for a while yet, as Namco Bandai will be focusing on Tales of Xillia and Tales of Symphonia Chronicles for the time being. As we get into 2014, however, who knows what they'll have in store for us!
