Good old Major Nelson. When gamers were disappointed that Microsoft's "Games with Gold" service was starting off with Defense Grid: The Awakening, he was on the front lines on Reddit answering questions. He promised to take folks' issues straight to marketing and now two days later he has confirmed Assassin's Creed II will be the next "Games with Gold" addition, available July 16.
Here's Larry Hryb's tweet that confirms the Assassin's Creed II:
I can confirm that Assassin’s Creed II will be the next free title released in the Xbox “Games With Gold” Program http://t.co/c7mRquZZHL— Larry Hryb (@majornelson) July 3, 2013
Where Defense Grid: The Awakening was priced at $9.99, Assassin's Creed II comes in at $19.99, so effectively double the value monetarily. It's also priced similarly on PC, though that's also for the "Deluxe Edition" of ACII. Will the Xbox 360 version also include three bonus maps?
Ignoring the price, just the addition of a big brand like Assassin's Creed should be enough to sate most gamers need for a substantial title in the "Games with Gold" program. All they really want to see is Microsoft taking this seriously and providing a comparable service to what Sony is doing with PlayStation Plus. Are they doing that now? Well, that's a complicated issue.
The next round of "Games with Gold" launches July 16, so enjoy Defense Grid: The Awakening until then.
