Hooray for developer Picroma, as they've just launched their game Cube World. Like Minecraft, Cube World's biggest feature is its procedurally generated worlds for players to explore. Unlike Minecraft, Cube World is an RPG about adventuring, allowing players to explore dungeons and acquire loot, complete missions. You can even specialize and progress as a typical RPG class. Also like Minecraft, Cube World tried to launch via a self-hosted store on their own website. Things went bad from there.
Cube World was barraged by gamers wanting to purchase and play their game -- it's what every developer could dream for! Unfortunately, their servers weren't able to handle the strain and crashed almost immediately. Now the site's back up, but the store is still down while Picroma sorts through their sales in order to make sure everyone who purchased their game has access to it.
Here's the message currently displayed on the front of their website:
"Our server has problems to handle the traffic, even though we're hosting Cube World on a separate location. Our main priority is currently to fix issues with all buyers so far and make sure they get their game."
Hopefully the server issues aren't too complicated and Picroma are able to ensure everyone who bought the game can play ASAP without any undue stress. Then, hopefully, the store can be brought back up and I can finally buy the game too! Hopefully Cube World turns out just as good as Minecraft, in its own little RPG way.
Stay tuned for more information on the status of Cube World's server issues as they're updated.
