In 2011, Nintendo got busy claiming every Wii U domain name they could think of. Unfortunately, the wiiu.com domain remains out of their grasp, after the World Intellectual Property Organization denied their appeal for ownership.
The anonymous owner of wiiu.com apparently registered the domain way back in 2004, well before Nintendo thought to start their domain-snatching spree. Heck, s/he actually owned the domain name before the Wii U was even announced.
In February 2013, Nintendo filed a cybersquatting complaint with the WIPO, hoping to claim wiiu.com from whoever held ownership. The WIPO has denied the complaint, and Nintendo is now planning to contact the owner in hopes of negotiating a purchase. Can you smell the money?
Microsoft also filed similar domain disputes with the National Arbitration Forum over xboxone.com and xboxone.net domains.
